Student Reading Tutor - Refugee Center
DEPARTMENT: Career Services & Exp Learning
WORK LOCATION: Offsite - Refugee Center 2130 ENTERPRISE ST SE, KENTWOOD, MI 49508
POSITION PAY RANGE: $18.00
Responsibilities
• Assist preschool and elementary age students with basic reading skills.
• May include teaching parents how to read to their child.
• Listen to students as they read aloud.
• Read aloud to students and parents.
• Conduct special projects, research and assignments as needed.
• Provide GREAT customer service, anticipating and exceeding the needs of our customers.
• Demonstrate and promote the University Cultural Values.
• Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent
• Must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours as an undergraduate student or 3 credit hours as a graduate student at Davenport University while meeting the standards of academic progress
• Must be work study eligible
• Must be patient and understanding when listening
• Should be familiar with phonics (explaining how to sound out new words)
• Ability to provide constructive criticism
• Experience working with children not necessary
• Excellent interpersonal skills that transcend diverse audiences; communicating to university customers with positive attitudes toward change, confidentiality, and conflict resolution
• Demonstrated motivational and problem solving capabilities with a high degree of integrity, ethics, and dedication to the mission of the University
• Classroom and Office environment. Prolonged sitting and standing. Use of personal computer and telephone (eye and hand strain).
• Some travel between locations may be required (own transportation). No regular lifting requirements, occasional lifting up to 15lbs
