Description
Our client, an applied technology company - generative AI, sensor technology, and the Internet of Things (IoT) = focused on solving real business problems using the best available technologies, is seeking a Director of Finance/Controller add to their team. This growing company has 50 employees and currently runs Accounting/Financials through 2 key employees ("doers"). This role will become the leader who will build/manage this team and create all infrastructure around this business function. The need is for a hands-on finance leader to establish and manage the company's financial operations and build the foundation of the company's finance function.
This role pays a salary in the $120K - $150K range based on experience, includes UNLIMITED PTO, 4% match on 401K and Health, Dental and Vision BENEFITS PAID at 100%. The role is a fully remote WORK FROM HOME role that can be based at any location in the US.
The key to this role is past recent and relevant experience managing day-to-day financial operations, maintaining accurate financial reporting, and providing practical financial insight to support business decisions. The 4 key areas of expertise needed are: Financial Operations, Financial Planning and Reporting, Cash Management, Contracts Revenue, Financial Processes Compliance and External Coordination. This is an ideal role for someone who enjoys working in an early-stage environment and is comfortable operating both strategically and operationally in a small organization. The incumbent will:
• Manage day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger management
• Oversee monthly financial close and maintain accurate financial records
• Coordinate payroll and employee expense processes
• Maintain financial systems and accounting software
• Prepare monthly financial reports and provide financial visibility to leadership
• Develop and maintain operating budgets and financial forecasts
• Monitor company spending and help leadership manage operating costs
• Support leadership with financial analysis and modeling for business decisions
• Monitor cash flow and maintain short- and medium-term cash forecasts
• Manage invoicing and collections processes
• Track vendor payments and help ensure responsible financial management
• Provide leadership with visibility into company financial position
• Support review of customer contracts and ensure appropriate revenue tracking
• Maintain processes for invoicing, revenue recognition, and project tracking
• Help establish simple and scalable financial processes as the company grows
• Assist leadership with pricing, margin analysis, and cost visibility
• Coordinate with external accountants for tax filings and annual reporting
• Maintain financial documentation and internal controls
• Ensure compliance with financial regulations and accounting standards
• Support financial due diligence for potential business partnerships or initiatives
Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree
• 7+ years of experience in finance, accounting, or financial management
• Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting
• Experience managing financial operations in a hands-on role
• Ability to build simple and scalable financial processes from the ground up
• Experience with Microsoft suite of tools - Outlook/Word/Excel
• Experience with Quickbooks Software
Preferred but NOT required
• Masters Degree
• CPA or equivalent accounting certification is a plus
• Experience working in a startup or small-company environment
