Requisition ID: 1648
Full - Time
Job Description:
Chief Financial Officer Silver Spring, MD | Hybrid | Full-Time | $145,000-$160,000
About Santé Group
Affiliated Santé Group is a growing nonprofit behavioral and mental health organization serving communities across Maryland. We operate across multiple affiliated entities, run on a complex mix of federal and state grants, government contracts, and managed care funding - and we're expanding. Our finance function needs to match our ambition.
This is not a back-office role. The CFO sits at the leadership table, partners directly with the CEO, and is accountable for the financial health of the entire enterprise.
The Role
We're looking for a CFO who wants to build, not just maintain. Someone who can walk into a board meeting and command the room, who understands the difference between grant-restricted and unrestricted funds, and who has operated in the complexity of nonprofit or healthcare finance before.
If your background is primarily corporate finance or you've never managed government-funded contracts, this role will be a difficult fit. If you've navigated multi-entity nonprofit finance with confidence - read on.
What You'll Lead
Enterprise-wide financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, and FP&A across all affiliated entities
Grant and contract financial oversight - federal and state funding streams, compliance, and restrictions
Accounting operations, revenue cycle, treasury, and cash management
GAAP compliance, audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting
Executive and Board financial reporting - you present, not just prepare
Financial risk management, internal controls, and insurance oversight
Finance team leadership, development, and organizational structure
Optimization of financial systems, reporting, and processes
What You Bring
Senior CFO or VP Finance experience in a nonprofit organization - this is not a first CFO role
Deep knowledge of grant management, government contracts, and restricted funding compliance
Behavioral health, mental health, or healthcare experience strongly preferred
Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement familiarity a strong plus
Experience leading finance across multiple entities or programs
CPA preferred; Bachelor's in Finance or Accounting required, Master's preferred
GAAP, audit, and regulatory reporting expertise
Executive presence - you can translate complex financials into clear language for a board
Builder mindset - you improve systems and processes, you don't just maintain them
This Is Not the Right Fit If…
Your background is corporate finance only, with no nonprofit or grant experience
You identify primarily as a Controller or Head of Accounting
You've never presented financial strategy directly to a board
Grant compliance and government funding are unfamiliar territory
What You'll Get
Salary: $145,000-$160,000 based on experience
Hybrid schedule: 3 days in-office / 2 days remote after 60-day onboarding
Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision
403(b) retirement plan with company match
Generous PTO, sick leave, and your birthday off every year
Professional development and career growth opportunities
A seat at the leadership table in an organization making a real difference in the community
We believe that diversity of background and experience makes for better problem-solving and collaboration, which is why we are dedicated to adding new perspectives to the team. Even more important than your resume is a positive attitude, a passion for making an impact, a personal desire to grow, and the ability to help individuals heal, recover, and thrive.
