Hotel Equities is a multi-award-winning hotel development and hospitality management company seeking a remarkable Accountant for their Canada Corporate Office in Edmonton, AB. The Accountant will be responsible for centralized accounting functions, ensuring accuracy in property-level accounting activities and supporting month-end and year-end close processes.
Responsibilities
- Review property-level accounting activities (A/P, A/R, general cashier, and daily reporting) to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with company policies
- Audit daily cash reports and reconciliations prepared by the property, ensuring deposits and balances are properly recorded
- Monitor and review vendor activity, including reconciliation of key accounts and investigation of discrepancies
- Ensure all recurring and outstanding invoices are recorded by the property and reflected accurately in the financials
- Post monthly brand reimbursements and other corporate-level entries
- Perform full month-end close, including preparation and review of journal entries, accruals, and supporting schedules in accordance with financial deadlines
- Conduct variance analysis and investigate significant fluctuations in financial results
- Support year-end close processes and external audits, including preparation of required documentation and responding to audit inquiries
- Partner with hotel operations teams and ownership groups to ensure financial accuracy and provide guidance on accounting matters
- Identify process gaps and drive improvements to enhance consistency, accuracy, and timeliness across properties
Skills
- Accounting diploma or equivalent required
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with hotel operations teams, ownership groups, and internal stakeholders
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports, documenting processes, and responding to inquiries
- Solid problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to identify issues and recommend practical solutions
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Flexibility to work extended hours as needed, particularly during month-end and year-end close, or for urgent projects
