Prince William County is a growing, diverse, and dynamic community seeking a full-time Special Inspections Engineer to support residential and commercial construction projects. The role involves a mix of office and field work, including reviewing construction drawings and performing quality assurance inspections on active construction sites to ensure compliance with building codes and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Contributing to and inspiring a successful team in a role that blends field and office work
- Tackling complex technical and process challenges
- Assisting others and delivering exceptional customer service
- Reviewing construction drawings and engineering reports
- Coordinating with internal and external stakeholders to help ensure public safety in completed facilities
- Visiting active construction sites to perform quality assurance inspections
- Ensuring work is progressing according to the approved plans, building code requirements and County policy and procedures
- Effective communication with contractors, engineers, and third-party inspectors to ensure code compliance and construction safety
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- 1 year of relevant experience, such as work as a design professional, construction inspector, plan reviewer, or code enforcement inspector
- Must be certified as an E.I.T. (Engineer in Training) within 18 months of employment
- Must become certified by the Virginia Department of Housing & Community Development as a Commercial Building Inspector within 18 months of employment, in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code
- Must become certified as a Residential Building Inspector within 36 months of employment in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code
- Must possess a valid driver's license
- Must pass a DMV records check
- 1 year of engineering experience
- Skills using MS Office and occasionally structural and geotechnical engineering software and CAD
- Experience with computer data entry to prepare, maintain, and update reports under different formats
- Experience applying code knowledge in order to perform quality control reviews
- Experience scheduling maintenance and inspections prior to building inspections
