First Assist Registered Nurses (RNs) are incredibly important members of the medical team who help to prepare patients for surgery and support surgeons and surgical staff to ensure successful surgical encounters. RNs not only provide high-quality medical care but they also provide a healing touch and a compassionate presence to patients and their families during joyful, stressful, and uncertain times. The RNFA practices peri-operative nursing and is therefore responsible for independent nursing behaviors of peri-operative assessment and post-operative evaluation of care.
