Los Angeles County Department of Human Resources is seeking a Payroll Specialist to provide payroll support within the Accounting and Budget Development Division. The role involves performing specialized and technical duties related to payroll processing to ensure employees are paid accurately and on time. Responsibilities - Provide payroll support within the Accounting and Budget Development Division - Perform a variety of specialized and technical duties related to payroll and system related functions and activities to assure County Office employees are paid in an accurate and timely manner Skills - Graduation from high school or equivalent - One year of payroll processing experience and the utilization of automated business systems - Knowledge of federal and state statutes, codes, laws, regulations, bargaining labor agreements, policies and procedures related to payroll processing, time reporting, personnel assignments, deduction control, and payroll accounting - Input and data retrieval procedures for payroll databases and computerized systems - Filing and record-keeping systems (e.g., UKG, Red Rover) and techniques for physical and electronic document management - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and other Microsoft Office applications - Critical Thinking – Analytically and logically evaluating information, propositions, and claims - Mathematical Facility – Performing computations and solving mathematical problems - Legal & Regulatory Navigation – Understanding, interpreting, and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations - Professional & Technical Expertise – Applying technical subject matter to the job - Using Technology – Working with electronic hardware and software applications - Attention to Detail – Focusing on the details of work content, work steps, and final work products - Self-Management – Showing personal organization, self-discipline, and dependability - Oral Communication – Engaging effectively in dialogue - Writing – Communicating effectively in writing - Customer Focus – Attending to the needs and expectation of customers - Teamwork – Collaborating with others to achieve shared goals - Cultural Proficiency – Modeling communications and interactions that respect and include all individuals and their languages, abilities, religions, and cultures Benefits - Your choice of several medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans - PERS Defined Benefit Plan - 12 vacation, 15 holidays, and 12 illness days. - Insurance includes health, medical, dental, vision and group life - Retirement CALPERS combined with Social Security, and pre-tax retirement savings account options Company Overview - The County of Los Angeles provides those committed to a career in public service with boundless opportunities, a platform for professional and personal growth, and the ability to truly make a difference in people's lives.
