• This is an internal opportunity. Only current Boulder County Public Health employees are eligible to apply.* Boulder County Public Health Department is seeking to hire a Lead Epidemiologist. This position is an integral member of the Boulder County Public Health (BCPH) Communicable Disease Epidemiology Program and performs a variety of complex epidemiological duties related to the surveillance, investigation, control, infection prevention, follow-up and reporting of communicable disease cases and outbreaks in Boulder County. This role provides supervision for epidemiologists and disease investigation specialists and serves on the Communicable Disease and Emergency Management Division Leadership Team (CDEMLT). The role ensures outbreak preparedness and response activities, implements infection control protocols to prevent and respond to outbreaks and ensures that cases and outbreaks are monitored and reported in alignment with state guidance. This position responds to communicable disease inquiries from the public and partners and coordinates response actions. This position works in close collaboration with priority system partners (e.g. congregate residential facilities, K-12 schools, early childhood education, higher education). This is a full-time, benefited position that will work Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm with occasional evenings, nights, holidays, and weekends required, sharing on-call team responsibility for after-hours epidemiology response. This position will work remote and out of 3482 Broadway St., Boulder, Colorado. Under Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) guidelines, this position is exempt. Boulder County requires its employees to reside in the state of Colorado as of the first day of work. Visit studentaid.gov for more information. • Supervision and Leadership • Provides supervision for program staff in alignment with policies and procedures including personnel management interviews (PMI), discipline, coaching, and annual appraisals • Serves as a member of CDEMLT and participates in agency-wide initiatives that contribute to agency strategic priorities • Actively engages in creating a supportive work environment that is effective, efficient, welcoming, and inclusive of all team members and colleagues • Actively engages in required trainings and discussions on achieving health and racial equity to center and align communicable disease response and team activities with agency expectations • Supports administrative activities associated with grants and contracts • Supports the development and implementation of operational plans and accountability controls • Communicable Disease Response • Shares team responsibility to ensure program operations including 24/7 after hours epidemiology response • Monitors EpiTrax and other applicable data platforms for notifiable condition disease reporting • Initiates and conducts epidemiological investigations and outbreak responses • Actively engages in ensuring exceptional customer service that is welcoming and inclusive of all community members • Conducts surveillance for reportable communicable diseases in Boulder County • Determines and implements necessary infection prevention and control measures for reportable disease cases and outbreaks following guidelines outlined in established protocols and references; consults with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) Disease Control Program, as appropriate • Manages outbreak investigations, including data collection, coordination of laboratory testing, data analysis, control measures guidance, risk communication, and preparation of reports • Provides epidemiologic and infection prevention guidance and consultation to local health providers and partners • Maintains secure and confidential data per agency policies and procedures • Serves an integral role in communicable disease emergency response operations • Additional Responsibilities • Performs related work, as required • May be reassigned during emergency situations PLEASE NOTE: When completing your application describe all relevant education and experience, as applications are assessed based on the required qualifications listed. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Boulder County is looking for well qualified candidates to fill our positions. Any combination of relevant education and experience is encouraged. In this position, we are looking for a minimum of: • A Masters degree from an accredited college or university in public health, epidemiology, biostatistics, or related field AND • 4 (four) years of public health experience in areas related to communicable disease epidemiology, prevention and control INCLUDING • 1 (one) year of direct supervisory experience Additional related education may count towards required experience.
