We are seeking an experienced journalist or published author to document our family history through in-depth interviews and narrative storytelling. This project will result in a private, book-ready family history combining oral history, journalistic narrative, and curated family artifacts (photos, letters, documents).
Scope of Work:
- Conduct interviews with 10-12 living members of our family representing the families of 7 siblings.
- Research and write a dedicated chapter for each sibling's family, based on family interviews and archival materials.
- Collect, organize, and integrate photos, letters, and family artifacts into the narrative
- Shape interviews into a cohesive, journalistic-style manuscript suitable for private printing
- Deliver fully edited, book-ready text
Requirements (Must-Have)
- Fluent Gujarati speaker (required for interviews)
- Proven experience as a journalist or published author (books, long-form journalism, or narrative nonfiction)
- Strong interview skills, especially with older adults
- Ability to synthesize multiple voices into a clear, engaging narrative
- Comfortable handling sensitive personal and family material with discretion
Logistics
- Interviews conducted primarily remotely
- Target project timeline: 3 months or less
Project-based engagement, compensated hourly (range to be discussed)

Ideal Candidate (Nice-to-Have)
- Experience with oral histories, memoirs, or legacy projects
- Familiarity with South Asian or Gujarati cultural context
