Human Resources Specialist (HR Specialist)

We’re hiring a Part-Time HR Specialist (25-30 hours/week) to serve as 30 Lines’ dedicated people operations resource. You’ll work directly with leadership and be the go-to person for everything HR: compliance, onboarding, benefits, employee relations, and the systems that tie it all together. This is a build role, not a maintenance role. You’ll audit and update the employee handbook, establish multi-state compliance processes, set up Asana-based HR workflows, and clear an existing backlog of HR questions—then build the systems to make sure it doesn’t come back. Description What You’ll Do HR Infrastructure & Policy - Build and maintain the employee handbook, policies, and SOPs for a fully remote team - Design onboarding and offboarding processes with documented checklists in Asana - Create and manage personnel files and confidential HR documentation - Establish performance review cadence aligned with EOS quarterly Rock cycles - Clear the existing HR task backlog and maintain an ongoing improvement queue Multi-State Compliance - Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws across all states where team members reside - Track evolving requirements: pay transparency, PFML, wage/hour laws, anti-discrimination protections - Manage state tax registration, SUI, and workers’ comp obligations for new jurisdictions - Partner with Gusto and Mosey to implement compliance changes and register in new states - Ensure proper W-2 vs. 1099 classification for all workers Benefits & Compensation - Administer health insurance, retirement plans, and PTO programs - Own employee education and home office stipends—purchasing, tracking, and reconciliation - Coordinate open enrollment and serve as liaison with benefits providers - Support payroll coordination by ensuring accurate data in Gusto Employee Relations & Culture - Serve as the primary contact for HR questions—policies, benefits, leave, workplace concerns - Facilitate resolution of employee relations issues with discretion and professionalism - Support remote team engagement and culture initiatives - Support the EOS People Component: Accountability Chart, Right People/Right Seats, People Analyzer Recruiting Support - Draft and post job descriptions with inclusive language and pay transparency compliance - Screen resumes, coordinate interviews, and manage candidate communications - Conduct background and reference checks (FCRA, ban-the-box compliant) - Manage offer letters, employment agreements, and new hire paperwork - Coordinate Day 1 logistics including shipping onboarding materials for remote hires Recordkeeping & Reporting - Maintain accurate HR records in compliance with data privacy and retention requirements - Prepare HR reports: headcount, turnover, benefits utilization, compliance status - Support SOC 2 audit readiness for HR-related access controls and deprovisioning HR Tech Stack & Vendors - Own configuration and administration of Gusto (payroll/benefits) and Mosey (multi-state compliance) - Serve as primary contact with Gusto, Mosey, Checkr, benefits brokers, and future HRIS vendors - Maintain HR workflows, templates, and recurring tasks in Asana - Evaluate and recommend new tools that integrate with Google Workspace, Asana, and Gusto What We’re Looking For Required - 3+ years of HR generalist/specialist experience owning core HR functions - Experience supporting a remote workforce across multiple U.S. states - Strong knowledge of federal employment law (FMLA, ADA, FLSA, Title VII, COBRA) and multi-state compliance - Experience building HR processes from the ground up at a small company - Hands-on experience with Gusto or a comparable modern payroll/HRIS platform - Exceptional communication skills—you explain complex HR topics in plain language - High standards for confidentiality and professionalism - Self-directed, comfortable working independently in a remote, async environment - Proficient with Google Workspace and Asana (or similar project management tools) Preferred - SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent HR certification - Experience in a company running EOS—familiarity with Rocks, L10s, Scorecard, V/TO, People Component - Experience with Mosey or similar multi-state compliance platforms - Familiarity with SOC 2 compliance as it relates to HR access controls - Background in marketing agency, SaaS, or PropTech environments - Experience supporting a team through a product launch or growth phase - Benefits plan design experience for companies with 10–50 employees How We Work: EOS 30 Lines runs on the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS). In this role, you’ll: - Set quarterly Rocks for people operations (e.g., “Complete employee handbook v2”) - Report on a weekly Scorecard measurable (e.g., open HR tasks, onboarding completion rate) - Participate in or support weekly Level 10 Meetings as needed - Contribute to quarterly planning when people operations topics are on the agenda No prior EOS experience required—we’ll provide onboarding materials.
