Pario Engineering & Environmental Sciences LP is seeking a Forensic Materials Engineer to join their Collision Reconstruction Team. The successful candidate will conduct root cause material failure investigations to support insurance and legal proceedings across various industries, utilizing their problem-solving skills and technical background in materials science and mechanical engineering.
Responsibilities
- Lead projects from start to finish, ensuring that timelines stay on track
- Communicating directly with clients to confirm project scope, budget, scheduling, and findings
- Assess, analyze and report on the origin and cause of material failures
- Interview witnesses and service personnel, and obtain background information and documentation on a loss
- Attend sites and document evidence with photographs, measurements, and detailed notes
- Conduct materials characterization and analysis, including non-destructive and destructive laboratory examinations of evidence
- Provide verbal and written reports to clients
Skills
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Materials/Mechanical Engineering
- Professional Engineering License or the ability to become licensed in the province of Ontario is a requirement
- Must have a valid G license, access to a vehicle, and the ability to work in remote areas, as well as in a range of temperatures and weather conditions
- In-depth knowledge of materials science (metals, polymers, ceramics, and composites), microscopy (optical, digital, and scanning electron), fractography, metallography, microstructure analysis, mechanical property testing, and other materials characterization, with hands-on materials laboratory experience preferred
- Mechanical aptitude for component disassembly and/or machine shop experience is an asset
- Experience conducting technical literature reviews
- Proficiency in digital photography to document sites and evidence
- Ability to produce neat and legible handwritten notes, diagrams and sketches
- Proficiency in standard Microsoft Office (MS Word, Outlook & Excel)
- Excellent written and verbal presentation skills, and a good command of the English language
- Well-organized, with the ability to manage multiple projects and set priorities to meet deadlines, and a demonstrated track record of taking projects to successful completion
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to discuss project budgets with clients and maintain continuous communications throughout a project
- A positive, self-driven attitude with a willingness to learn and collaborate with colleagues
- Graduate level degree in Materials Engineering or Materials Science is an asset
- Mechanical aptitude for component disassembly and/or machine shop experience is an asset
